Wie meinte einmal Herr Fehr? "Es ist ueberall anders .."When reading your joke, it brought to mind one of the many reasons I now attend a different denomination.
One reason was the Euroization (Not sure if that is a word) of the NAC here in America. Many times when I read the Our Family, it seemed to insult some of "our" core American values.

Sorry to say, but let’s say openly. The Catholic church, ah several centuries ago, ah, established a kind of scale of sins, you know. You had the very serious sins and the light ones. And, Ya everything related to sex that was always on the top. That was serious! Okay for the reason you can imagine, these men in the Catholic Church, decided that everything related to sex, that’s serious. But sorry, ah if the sin related with sex are not more serious than other sins. There is no difference, a sin has to be forgiven, a sin separates you from God, but there is no reason to establish a scale of sins, and to put sex sins at the top. God has made man and woman and they are…ah… they are made to have sex. I’m sorry, but that’s the will of God. [audience laughs]. For sure, sorry! That’s part of the human being otherwise God would have…fffah… managed the things differently. So, that’s the first thing. So stop this story with the focus on sex! Sex…that’s bad! And the rest is not. No, for me, ah the one who is greedy for money, the awful capitalist, you know, is as ah guilty even more guilty than another one.

Saturday - Gospel Fest held at a Marriott Hotel in Midtown Manhattan. To this event are invited the members from Brooklyn, Rosedale, Bronx and Hollis. This event is by invitation only and requires a ticket. The members are putting on a Gospel Fest with singing in English, Creole and African languages. These congregations are not invited to Woodbury on Sunday.
Sunday - Service in Woodbury with tickets only - invited are Woodbury, Suffolk, Astoria and White Plains only.
The Chinese congregations are not invited to either event.
You would think if they were renting a venue, they would have gotten one big enough for the whole district to attend the service. But then they could not "show off" Woodbury I guess.
I wonder how the congregations for Saturday and Sunday were decided since it is not based on Geography (White Plains is further from Woodbury than most of the others)
Maybe it is just me, but I find something distasteful about how this was broken down and who can go and who can't.
Frustratedshepherd hat seine eigene Erklaerung:frustratedshepherd hat geschrieben:The invitation was divided along racial lines. All predominantly Caucasian congregations were welcomed to the service. All congregations made up primarily of any other race were not invited. The concert was a consolation prize but was not well attended by those it was intended to console because it was held at a hotel in Times Square rather than a venue close to where these members live. I don't think the decision makers intended to segregate in this way but they also did nothing to correct for it when the members raised what seemed to be a legitimate gripe.
(..)
The invited congregations for the service are all predominantly Caucasian (Woodbury, Suffolk, Astoria, White Plains).
The uninvited congregations for the service are all predominantly other races, or at the very least "not majority caucasian" (Bronx, Brooklyn, Hollis, Rosedale, all of the Chinese Congregations).
These concerns had been brought up months ago by many members, but the NY District leadership refused to acknowledge the unfortunate and unnecessary way the district was divided. It would have only required a simple change to invite one additional congregation or we could have rented a facility and invited all of our brothers and sisters to share in the service. Also, it is too bad that the NY Chinese district was excluded from everything. I'm sure given the opportunity they would have been happy to participate in the festive weekend as many of the members in the NY Chinese District live relatively close to the Woodbury congregation.klitzke hat geschrieben:Dont know why, but this discussion made me think of THIS

Lebers Satz hat sowieso in dieser Religionsgemeinschaft sehr schnell nach seiner vollmundigen Verkuendung an Strahlkraft verloren.

Should the Lord come, he'll not look there for us. Also, our Apostle would be disappointed, since we must always conduct ourselves as if he were watching. (..) Alas, there is a good side to those theaters however. Saturday night 'tis the house of Satan. Sunday morning, the rented House of God for District Service, thanks to the cleansing power of prayer. Uhhhh...., whatever. Nice save NAC.
